January is always a quiet month for me, so I spent the month working on my editing backlog until things started picking up again . I photographed an Après Sundance film festival party at Nice Shoes, a post-production company. I recognized a few familiar faces from DOCNYC, the documentary film festival I’ve been on the photo team for the last six years, and made some friends, all while taking pics of this fun event that smelled like s’mores and fondue. The theme was very on-point!
Then I attended a reading of a new play: Woman, Life, Freedom. It’s a one-woman play about the global movement of empowering and protecting Iranian women. It was an intimate event, with only a few invited attendees, and very powerful. I kept forgetting I was there to take photos, I got so caught up with what the actress was saying.
And that was it for January! I had a cosplay photoshoot scheduled as well, but ended up moving it to February so I could hit some deadlines. From here, it’s smooth sailing until Katsucon, just a few weeks away. I’ll be shooting with a lot of cosplayers, and want to fully clear my backlog before I leave. 2024 is just getting started!
